Adrienne Doig
She/Her
Born in Wangaratta, Victoria 1963
Studied in Norway at Ryfylke FolKehogskule 1982 -83 and in Sydney at
College of Fine Arts 1984 -89 and Sydney College of the Arts 1996.
Adrienne Doig has been the recipient of
the Austrian Federal Chancellery Studio Residency in Vienna, Austria 2001,
Visual Arts Craft Board of the Australia Council Studio Residency, Milan,
Italy 2003, The AGNSW Moya Dyring Studio, Cite International, Paris,
France in 2007, and was a visiting resident at the American Academy in
Rome, Rome, Italy in 2014.
She
received funding from Create NSW Small Projects Grant in 2020, the New
Media Arts Board of the Australia Council, Project Grant in 1996, a
Project Grant (with Lee Paterson) from the Visual Arts Craft Board of the
Australia Council in 1992. She was awarded a Minnefondet Foundation
Scholarship, Norway in 1982. She has also had artist Studio Residencies in
Vienna, Milan, and Rome.
Doig has exhibited in contemporary art
spaces, artist run and commercial galleries in Australia and abroad. Her
work is held in public and private collections in Australia, Europe and
the United States.
Doig’s work has featured in many publications
and online articles and blogs including
CoUNTess: Spoiling Illusions Since 2008,
The Art
Guide, Australian Art Collector, and Artist Profile. During the Covid
lockdown in 2019 Doig created a video project for the AGNSW which was a
participatory online activity made for the Together in Art.
Recent exhibitions of her work include the
travelling exhibition It’s About Me! (which, toured regional galleries in
NSW and Victoria) as well as OH MY GODDESS shown at Martin Browne
Contemporary Sydney and soon to be exhibited at the Hellenice Museum
Melbourne. Doig’s work playfully explores the politics of a feminine
ideal, beauty myths and female architypes.
Her portraits of the Australian Treasures Jenny Kee and Linda
Jackson in the nesting doll format were recently aquired for the National
Portrait Gallery. The site specific work ‘What
Do We Want?’
a 13 metre mural that focused on the covid lockdowns was commissioned by
the AGNSW as part of Archie Plus in 2020.
Doig’s work is held in the following collections The

She works in a variety of media including
embroidery, applique, drawing, sculpture, video and multimedia. A recurring
image or theme in her work is self-portraiture.
